In his Vision Speech at the 2018 Keller Williams Family Reunion, Gary Keller explained how real estate wasn’t just headed into one of it’s cyclical market shifts, but rather what he referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. The disconnected disparate systems that have defined real estate for decades would be forced into a new digital space where A.I. fed by big data would change the business forever.
He opined that in order for real estate agents to compete in tomorrow’s real estate environment at a high level that they would need to be able to master key proficiencies:
Controlling our data is of critical importance because if we don’t own the data, we don’t own the insights. And soon, whoever does own the insights will know more than all of their competitors. And whoever owns the insights wins the game. Keller Williams owns the largest real estate related data store (big data) on the planet simply because they track everything about every transaction from their almost 200,000 worldwide associates. When we apply A.I. and machine learning to that dataset, they provide our agents with a significant competitive advantage through the insights they deliver.
Managers advocating for their brokerages often use the term ‘cloud brokerage,’ but the reality is that every significant real estate brokerage worldwide has operated ‘in the cloud’ for many years. Working remotely and online is not a new concept.
